Beena Kamlani  began as an editorial trainee at Oxford University Press, and has held editorial positions at Harper & Row, Random House and is now senior editor at both the Viking and Penguin imprints of the Penguin Group, where she has edited and developed a wide range of books.  As Saul Bellow’s editor, she worked with him closely from 1990 until his death in 2005, and also with Robert Fagles on his translations of the Odyssey, the Iliad and the Aeneid. Among other authors she has worked with are Diane Middlebrook, David Leavitt, Terry McMillan, Paul Beatty, Margot Livesey, Jiang Rong, Garrison Keillor, and Blanche Wiesen Cook. She was also an associate professor of publishing  at New York University until 2011, where she trained up-and-coming editors since 1992 on the craft of editing. In March 2002, she received an award for teaching excellence from the university. She now teaches writers how to self-edit at Hunter College, NYC.

She is also an award-winning writer whose fiction has won a Pushcart Prize and other honorable mentions and is presently completing a novel.
