Meet: Marie Bostwick
NY Times best-selling author Marie Bostwick will share her next stay at When Words Count Retreat with eight lucky writers/fans who want to get to know her better as they learn how to make their writing stronger and their writing lives more manageable.
Beginner and Advanced Writer’s Workshops
Novelists and memoir writers welcome! Join Marie for either a 4-day, 3-night beginning writer’s session in the last weekend of January (Friday, 1/31 to Monday 2/3) or a 4-day, 3-night advanced writer’s class scheduled for the first weekend in February (Friday 2/7 to Monday 2/10.)
During the day, you’ll have plenty of uninterrupted writing time in which to make progress on your book. Work at a private desk in your room or from any of the charming work stations and nooks and crannies spread throughout our country elegant, fully modernized, 1809 farmhouse and former inn. A glance through any window, or a brisk, refreshing walk, will reward you with inspiring, views of our rustic mountain hideaway and surrounding countryside.
Great Food
As our guest, you’ll enjoy great food: a two-course country breakfast each morning, a buffet-style farm lunch and an informal cocktail hour, followed by a four-course gourmet dinner each night — all prepared by our professional chef, Paul Krcmar.
Three Evening Hash Sessions with Marie
After dinner, spend the evening with Marie, before a roaring fire in the Gertrude Stein salon, reading and discussing excerpts from your work-in-progress (limit: four author readings per night). Get to know Marie, and your fellow-writers, better as you engage in stimulating conversations about the writing craft, publishing and more.
Special features
Friday Night Quilt Trunk Show: Marie, an avid quilter, will show off some of her favorite quilts and invite each attendee to share one of their own.
Individual 1-on-1 Workshops: Meet privately, with Marie, on Saturday or Sunday, for 45 minutes to discuss either a pre-submitted 10-page excerpt of your work or to get her advice on such topics as:
- How to get going with book ideas, characters, pacing and structure
- How to write an effective query letter or
- How to create a more structured and productive writing environment at home
Rates
There is no charge for attending the workshops beyond our regular, in-season room and board rates. These will vary according to rooms selected. (All reservations include rooms and meals.) Reserve your room by December 15th to receive an early-bird special room rate of 15% Off the in-season price.
